Markham District Energy (MDE) is one of Canada’s leading thermal utilities, providing highly reliable heating and cooling to over 13 million square feet of connected development in Markham, Ontario. When expanding their chilled water network, MDE worked with Sandale Utility Products to replace the originally specified pre-insulated steel piping with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for improved performance, cost savings, and sustainability. The switch delivered an 18% cost reduction, a six-week schedule recovery, greater installation flexibility, and eliminated corrosion risks — all while supporting MDE’s low-carbon goals.
